Hickory Hill has special features that all of our future residents will love. Learn more about them below:
The Hickory Hill Coffee Shoppe is a gathering place for residents to enjoy morning, afternoon, and evening snacks and good fellowship with one another. We find many reasons to use this lovely room; ice-cream socials, ladies' teas, and other small group activities, as the warm décor of wallpapers, lace curtains, and openness of large picture windows are so inviting.
One of the most interesting and talked about rooms at Hickory Hill is our Gift Shoppe where beautiful craft items are displayed. To enhance our special events throughout the year, all proceeds from items being sold goes towards our activities club. Every resident at Hickory Hill is a member of the activities club. Our activity director uses her talents to inspire wonderful projects for our residents to make for sale in the shop, as well as assisting them with mail, selecting appropriate greeting cards and personal purchases.
While on the subject of the activity program at Hickory Hill, you will find that one of our most popular activities is the exercise class. The exercise and therapy room comes alive with music, colorful and fun props, and almost too many residents to fit! The class is for everyone — whether wheelchair-bound or able to walk on your own — and is held five or six days each week. In the warmer months, our residents enjoy fresh air and a little sunshine with their exercise routine as it is held on our sprawling front porch where our two chocolate Labradors often join the fun.
The activity program at Hickory Hill includes activities for each individual personal preference. A sampling of these weekly activities includes our Cooking Club, Fireside Stories in the library, sing-along with the karaoke machine, bingo, craft classes, Neat Nails, outings to Wal-Mart, and the "Lunch Bunch" visits favorite local restaurants every other Tuesday. The Activity Assistant will also act as our residents' personal shopper on occasion for those who cannot venture out to the store with the group. (There is a small fee for this service.) Monday mornings, Wednesday and Sunday afternoons are set aside at Hickory Hill for Bible study with local ministers of all faiths.
We have many special events that are planned throughout the year, such as carnival night, candlelight "dress up" dinners, hat day, luaus, casino night, holiday parties, and the list goes on.
Another favorite place at Hickory Hill is the cheery and busy Beauty Shoppe where folks line up to be pampered by our hairdressers. This Shoppe is also decorated with wallpaper and borders created to soothe and relax every visitor, and ensure each individual experience is special and rewarding.
Respite care is a special, short term option, for residents needing weekend or weekly care (48-hour minimum stay required). Many families will use a 30-day respite stay at Hickory Hill as a stepping stone to long-term residency. This allows your loved one to feel more involved in the decision-making process.
